U-6 and U-8 Game Playing Rules 

The Ball:
U6: Size 3 
U8: Size 3 

Number of Players: 
A. Maximum number of players on the field at any time for each team is: 
U6: 4v4 Without a Goalkeeper (min of 3v3)
U8: 4v4 Without a Goalkeeper (min of 3v3)
B. Minimum number of players per team on the field at any one time is three 
(3). U6 and U8 Teams must play with a minimum of one substitute. If a substitute is 
required, the substitute will be provided by opposing team. Coaches shall work together to 
recruit players only from opposing team. FCSA Board recommends 
that each team play with the same amount of substitutions if applicable in 
order to give the same amount of playing time for every player. 
C. Teams must play with an equal number of players on the field. 
D. Substitutions: 
At quarter-time; 
At half time; 
Corner or goal kicks 
To replace an injured player. 
E. Playing Time: Each player SHALL play a minimum of 50% (two full 
quarters) of the total playing time. 
F. Goalkeepers are not allowed. 

Player’s Equipment: 

Conform to FIFA with the following exceptions: 

A. Footwear: Tennis shoes or soft-cleated soccer shoes with no toe cleat. 
B. Shinguards: Must be worn under team socks at all times. 

Duration of the Game: 

A. The game shall be divided into four (4) equal quarters. 
U6: 10 minute quarters 
U8: 12 minute quarters 
B. There shall be 2 to 5 minute breaks between quarters. 
C. U6 will not switch sides at all. They will stay on same side for entire 
D. There shall be a half-time break of 5 minutes. 
E. The referee will keep the official time for the game. 
Conform to FIFA but allowed a 2nd chance with the guidance from the referee and or Coaches

Other Game Play Rules

A.Build Out Line

  1. On all Goal kicks and Goalie possession of the ball, the opposing team must retreat back to the mid field line or Build out line (if painted) and may not attack until the ball has been placed into play by the team kicking the ball.  Players must me continually making an effort to retreat until the ball has been placed into play. The ball is considered to be in- play once it has been kicked from the goal kick spot.
  3. The referee will educate the players about the build out line rule. The referee may issue a verbal warning to the player without a stoppage of play. If in the opinion of the referee a
    player encroaches over the build-out line, the referee may whistle play to stop and award an Indirect Free Kick (IFK) to the goal keeper at the spot of possession.

  4. B.No heading of the ball
    Consistent with the U.S. Soccer mandates on heading the ball, heading is banned for all division players U-11 (U-12 and below for programs without single age divisions) and below in both practices and games.
  6. 2. An indirect free kick will be awarded to the opposing team if a player age 10 or younger, deliberately touches the ball with his/her head during a game.
  7. a. The indirect free kick is to be taken from the place where the player touched the ball with his/her head.
  8. b. An indirect free kick awarded to the attacking team inside the opposing team’s goal area, must be taken on the goal are line parallel to the goal line at the point nearest to where the player touched the ball with  his/her head.
  9. 3. Neither cautions nor send offs shall be issued for persistent infringement or denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity related to the heading infraction.

..No one is allowed to stand behind the goal and instruct the keeper. 
..All teams must sit on one side of the field and the parents must sit 
on the opposite side of 
the teams. 
..All kicks are indirect in the U6 and U8 divisions. 
..No Overtimes or Tie Breakers 
..All U6 teams will have a 30 minute practice time before a game. Practice during the week is optional and up to the individual coach. 
We will conform to FIFA rules for any rule that is not on this rules
